Homeownership ¡Si Se Puede!

Published on 4/2/2013

The late great Cesar Chavez was an advocate for U.S. Farmworkers and his legacy lives on today in the many who fight for justice in a variety of industries, including Housing.

This March, to honor the great labor leader, the National Hispanic Organization of Real Estate Associates (NHORA) held a host of workshops and presentations that focused on educating prospective homeowners on the latest lending and downpayment assistance programs.

The famous protest chant started by Dolores Huerta became synonymous with those who championed for change so NHORA elected to title the events by the same name “¡Si Se Puede!”

The “Si Se Puede” events were held in San Jose and San Francisco and included information on the newest loan products and gave an excellent summary of the lending and home buying process by addressing frequently asked questions: Where do I start the home buying process? Who is eligible to qualify for a loan? How soon after a Short Sale or Foreclosure can I re-enter the Market?  Along with the lending programs that were presented by Wells Fargo Mortgage, Bank of America, Chase, FirstCal and the City of San Jose, NHORA Leaders spent time educating attendees on the long term social and economic benefits of owning a home. NHORA’s bilingual presenters shared information on the importance of quality schools and building healthy communities through sustainable homeownership.

NHORA will continue to work towards improving the rate of homeownership among Latinos and takes great pride in celebrating the accomplishments of the Leaders who came before us. We salute Cesar Chavez and we thank Delores Huerta for her continued advocacy of Latino issues and send out a very special “Mil Gracias” to the NHORA Leaders who carry the torch that illuminates the path for those who seek the “Dream of Homeownership.”
